The SSC notification is the official notice that tells candidates which exam is open, who can apply, how to apply, and what dates, fees, vacancies, documents, exam scheme and instructions apply. Always read it on https://ssc.gov.in, because dates, vacancies and fee rules can change from one examination notice to another.

The Staff Selection Commission (SSC) is under the Government of India, Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances & Pensions, Department of Personnel and Training. Its headquarters address appears in official notices as Block No. 12, CGO Complex, Lodhi Road, New Delhi – 110003. The official website for the Staff Selection Commission is https://ssc.gov.in.
This page is for students who have found a notice but are not sure what to click next. It explains the route from checking a notice to completing One-Time Registration, submitting the online form, and later checking status. For an exam-wise overview, read the SSC exam overview. For rules on age and education, use the SSC eligibility guide. For paper structure, see the SSC exam pattern guide.
SSC Portal Navigation Guide for New Applicants: Step-by-Step
The safest way to check an SSC notification is to start from the current official portal, not from a forwarded PDF or a screenshot. The old SSC website itself points candidates to the new portal for application forms, notifications, results and important updates. Use the old site only when an official archived page or regional link sends you there.
Step 1: Open the official website
Go to https://ssc.gov.in. Check that the address bar shows the same domain before you enter any registration number, password, mobile number, Aadhaar-related detail or fee information.
Step 2: Use the Notice Board before you apply
An SSC notification may appear first as a main examination notice and later as a corrigendum or important notice. Treat all official updates for the same exam together.
Open the Notice Board and look for the examination name. Read the main notice first. Then check whether any corrigendum, addendum, important notice or date-extension notice has been issued for the same exam. A later corrigendum can change a condition from the original notice.
| Where to click | What it is used for | What to verify |
|---|---|---|
| Notice Board | Exam notice, corrigendum, addendum and instructions | Exam name, year, dates, eligibility, vacancies, fee, scheme and annexures |
| Apply | Active online application links | Whether the application is active for your exam and category |
| Login or Register | One-Time Registration and candidate login | Registration number, password, contact details and profile data |
| Examination Calendar | Tentative schedule of notifications and examinations | Only tentative timing; final dates come from the current notice |
| Results, answer key and admit-card links | Later stages after application or examination | Roll number, registration details, regional instructions and deadlines |
Step 3: Read the SSC notification in the right order
Do not start with the vacancy table. First confirm the examination name and year, because SSC conducts several examinations such as CGL, CHSL, MTS, JE, Stenographer, GD Constable, Delhi Police-related exams, Selection Posts and departmental exams. The detailed rules are not identical for all of them.
Read the notice in this order:
- Important dates: Note the opening date, last date, fee-payment date, correction-window dates and tentative exam schedule. Treat every date as per the current official notification and verify before relying on it.
- Eligibility: Check age, educational qualification, nationality, physical standards if applicable, and cut-off date for eligibility.
- Vacancies and posts: Vacancies may be tentative and may change. Do not treat a social-media vacancy count as final.
- Application process: Check the instructions for online application, photo, signature, declaration, fee and correction window.
- Exam scheme and syllabus: Confirm the number of papers or tiers, subjects, marks, negative marking and skill test or physical test rules where applicable.
- Documents and certificates: Check formats for caste, EWS, disability, ex-servicemen, age relaxation and other claims before submitting the form.
Step 4: Complete One-Time Registration before the form
Candidates are required to complete a One-Time Registration (OTR) on the new SSC website (https://ssc.gov.in) before applying for an examination. SSC states in its FAQ that One-Time Registration with the Commission is a mandatory prerequisite; after OTR is complete, candidates can apply online for any examination of the Commission.
The OTR flow asks for personal details, identification and contact details, password creation, additional details such as nationality, address and education, and a declaration. Enter the details slowly. SSC warns candidates to be cautious while filling OTR details because incorrect or wrong information can affect candidature.
Step 5: Apply only through the official online route
The SSC notification tells you whether the application link is active, what the last date is, and what fee or exemption rule applies. Do not use an old application link for a new exam cycle.
Applications for SSC examinations must be submitted online through the new SSC Headquarter portal at https://ssc.gov.in, unless a specific departmental notice gives a different official instruction. The old SSC portal also tells candidates to visit the new portal for application forms, notifications, results and other updates.
After logging in, choose the correct active exam link under Apply. Fill only what the form asks. If the form already pulls data from your OTR profile, check it against your certificates before moving ahead. The application is not complete merely because OTR is complete.
Step 6: Save proof after submission
After final submission, download or print the submitted application form and keep the registration number, exam name, year and payment proof, if any. Save the final PDF in more than one place. This helps when checking application status, admit card, answer key or result later.
SSC notification checklist for first-time applicants
| Before you submit | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Name, date of birth and category match certificates | Mismatch may cause document-verification problems. |
| Eligibility cut-off date is checked | Being eligible on a different date is not enough if the notice specifies a cut-off date. |
| Photo and signature instructions are followed | Wrong format or unclear image may lead to rejection or later correction issues. |
| Exam centre preferences are reviewed | Centre choice is usually difficult to change after the allowed window. |
| Fee status is confirmed, where fee applies | Payment initiated is not always the same as payment received. |
| Submitted form is downloaded | You need it for reference during status, admit-card and document-verification stages. |
Understanding SSC Application Status: A First-Timer’s Guide
After submitting the form, many candidates search for application status the next day. That is not always useful. SSC application status is normally useful closer to the exam or admit-card stage, when the Commission or the relevant regional portal provides information about acceptance, rejection, exam city, exam date or admit-card availability. The exact wording and timing can vary by examination.
What application status can tell you after an SSC notification
| Status information | Meaning for the candidate | Action to take |
|---|---|---|
| Application received or submitted | The form has been submitted in the system. | Keep the submitted form and wait for the next official update. |
| Provisionally accepted | The application has been accepted for the next stage, subject to later verification. | Check admit-card instructions and carry required documents. |
| Rejected or not accepted | The application may not be allowed for the exam, usually for a reason mentioned in the status or notice. | Read the reason and official instructions. Do not assume it can be corrected unless SSC provides a correction route. |
| Exam city, date or shift shown | Scheduling details are available before or with admit-card release. | Plan travel only after confirming the latest official admit-card details. |
| Admit card available | The candidate can download the admission certificate or hall ticket as per official instructions. | Download it from the official SSC or regional link and check every detail. |
How to check status without confusion
Keep the SSC notification PDF and your submitted application form open when you check status. This helps you confirm that the status belongs to the same exam and year.
- Start from the official SSC portal or the regional link given through the official portal.
- Use the same registration number and date of birth details used in the application.
- Match the exam name and year before trusting the displayed status.
- Read any rejection reason or instruction carefully. Do not rely only on the colour or short label shown on screen.
- If the admit card is released, download it and compare name, exam, date, shift, centre and reporting instructions.
Why OTR and application are not the same
OTR creates your common profile with SSC. The exam application is a separate step for a specific examination. A candidate who has completed OTR but has not submitted the exam form has not applied for that exam. This is one of the most common errors made by first-time applicants.
Common mistakes while checking status
- Using the wrong portal: Some candidates use an old bookmarked page. Begin from the current official website.
- Checking the wrong exam year: SSC exam names repeat every year, so always match the year.
- Ignoring corrigenda: A later notice may change dates, posts or instructions.
- Assuming tentative dates are final: The exam calendar is useful, but the current notice and later updates control the actual process.
- Not saving the submitted form: Without it, small details become harder to verify later.
Lack of a consolidated, easy-to-understand guide for first-time applicants on how to navigate SSC notices
A consolidated, easy-to-understand guide for first-time applicants on how to navigate the SSC portal is useful because the process is split across notices, OTR, apply links, calendar pages, regional updates, admit-card links and result pages. None of the top results provide a consolidated, easy-to-understand guide for first-time applicants that connects all these steps in one plain sequence without making the student jump between unrelated explanations.
The right mental model is simple: notification first, OTR second, exam form third, status and admit card later. Do not reverse the order. If you try to apply before reading the notice, you may miss a post-specific rule. If you complete OTR but skip the exam form, you have not applied. If you check status before SSC releases it, you may think something is wrong when nothing has been published yet.
Use this decision table when you are stuck
| Your situation | Where to go | What not to do |
|---|---|---|
| You heard that an exam has been announced | Open the Notice Board on ssc.gov.in and read the PDF notice. | Do not rely on a screenshot of dates. |
| You want to know if you are eligible | Read the eligibility section of the current notice and compare it with your certificates. | Do not use a previous year’s cut-off date. |
| You are applying for the first time | Complete OTR, then return to Apply for the specific exam. | Do not stop after OTR. |
| You paid the fee but are unsure about submission | Check the application form and payment status in the candidate login. | Do not submit another form unless the portal or notice instructs you. |
| You cannot find admit card | Check official SSC updates and the relevant regional link when released. | Do not download from unofficial links. |
| You found two different dates online | Trust the current official notice, corrigendum or update on ssc.gov.in. | Do not mix calendar dates with final notice dates. |
What changes from one SSC notification to another
The broad portal steps remain similar, but several items can change with every exam. These include application dates, fee, vacancy count, eligibility cut-off date, post preferences, exam centre options, paper pattern, physical standards, document formats and correction-window rules. For these items, use the current official notification only.
What usually remains the same
Even when the SSC notification changes from year to year, the safe route remains official notice, OTR, exam form, submitted copy, and later status tracking.
The basic route is stable: use the official portal, complete OTR, submit the exam-specific online application, save the submitted form, and track status or admit-card updates through official links. This route is safer than depending on forwarded messages or old saved pages.
